My journey began in college, where I took my first steps in construction as an assistant, sweeping job sites. What started as just a job quickly became a calling, inspiring me to pivot from studying Business to earning a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Colorado State University. Since then, I’ve built a diverse career in single-family home construction, commercial project management, and residential remodeling—all of which have prepared me to bring unparalleled expertise to the outdoor living spaces I design today at Griffin Decks.
When I’m not designing outdoor spaces, I immerse myself in woodworking, photography, and exploring the Colorado outdoors. Above all, I cherish time with my wife and three teenage children, who remind me every day why I strive for excellence in everything I do.
Barry is an entrepreneur with experience across numerous industries as an owner and operator of multiple businesses over the last 20 years. He brings a wealth of financial knowledge and operational leadership, holding a bachelor’s degree in finance. He loves the construction industry for the tangibility of building something meaningful and important for people in his community. A former Professional Hockey Player for eight seasons, including two seasons with the minor league affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche and an appearance on American Ninja Warrior in 2020. Barry gained experience in the construction industry remodeling homes for many summers during his hockey career. Barry is a husband and father of three boys and values grit, skill and integrity. He still plays hockey, loves everything outdoors and volunteers with the Dawg Nation Hockey Foundation, a local charity.
Scott Shapiro began his career in outdoor living with a strong foundation in horticulture and landscape design. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Horticulture, with an emphasis in Landscape Design, from North Carolina State University. He later continued his education through Colorado State University, earning a Master Gardener certification. He began his professional career working as a horticulturist in a municipal setting and gaining valuable experience in the golf course construction industry. From there, he spent more than 20 years designing residential landscapes and helping homeowners transform their properties into functional, beautiful, and inviting outdoor environments. Today, he brings that extensive design knowledge and hands-on industry experience to Griffin Outdoor Living, creating personalized outdoor spaces that complement each client’s home, lifestyle, and vision. Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through exercise, hiking, biking, camping and playing golf. I love exploring and traveling throughout Colorado, spending time outdoors, and capturing the natural beauty of the landscape through photography. Above all, I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my three daughters.
Juan (JR) began his career in construction in Orange County, CA working as an office assistant for a General Contractor. Curious by nature, he spent time with many people in the business to understand their roles and responsibilities. Growing in his knowledge and experience, he has managed all types of projects from kitchen remodels to outdoor projects. One of his biggest projects to date was a new family room at Empower Field, a big highlight as a Denver Broncos fan! Juan loves seeing the joy on a customer’s face when he has delivered a great experience and final product. Outside of his work with Griffin Outdoor Living, he enjoys the occasional video game with friends and family or firing up the smoker to feed his neighbors.
